Houses in Multiple Occupation Bill 2019-21
Ian Levy MP has recently introduced a new Bill for it’s First Reading to amend the law relating to the licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation; to increase penalties for the contravention of such licences; and for connected purposes.
Mr Levy expressed concern in his introduction of the Bill about the impact of subdividing large properties into HMO’s and particularly the “appalling” minimum accommodation standard of 10.22 square metres for two persons.
He referenced problems caused by non-licensed HMO’s trading as Airbnb’s, hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation and the antisocial behaviour issues that are dealt with by police.
The Bill, according to www.parliament.uk, is currently being prepared for public issue.
A second reading has been listed for the 5th February next year.
